Ms. NGAN Alice
Ms Alice Ngan (顏文慧女仕) has a rich and broad experience from the academia, manufacturing, trading, telecommunications and entertainment industries, experience that is unique and useful in bridging the academia with the industry. She was among the first group of managers in Hong Kong who managed intellectual property when she was with the Golden Harvest Group. She is the Director of the Technology Licensing Office of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). CUHK technologies, covering a broad scope from life sciences to engineering disciplines, have been transferred to both local and international organizations through the offices that Alice headed. The operations that Alice has helped established include clinic, web-site company, even a GEM listed company in Hong Kong. Significant income has been generated through these activities. The percentage of CUHK patented/patent pending technologies that were successfully licensed has been 40%, way above the average of 30% for most universities in the world. Alice is also an Associate Professor (by Courtesy) of the Department of Biochemistry at CUHK and participates in teaching a course in Business and Social Aspects of Biotechnology. Before joining CUHK, Alice managed the provision of electronic communications services for Cable & Wireless HKT. Prior to that, she was an executive with the Golden Harvest Group, an international entertainment corporation. Alice graduated as an Ivey Scholar with an Executive MBA degree from the Richard Ivey School of Business of The University of Western Ontario. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences from Queen’s University, Ontario, Canada. She is the Chairman of the Licensing Executives Society (LES) China - Hong Kong Sub-Chapter and a member of the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM).
