About LaSense Ultra-sensitive Online Gas Sensing System
In the atmospheric environment, trace gas species in sub-ppm level are always affecting the production efficiency and our life quality. PhD student Xu Ke and Professor Ren Wei from the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering of CUHK, established a startup named LaSense Technology this year, and have designed and developed a series of ultra-sensitive gas sensing and control systems aiming at the urgent market demand from energy industry.
The developed distributed on-line monitoring system based on frontier laser spectroscopy will be used in the denitration process control to improve the denitration capacity and efficiency of the power plant, and to achieve the source prevention of trace air pollution like NH3 and NOx as well. This invention also combines multiple technologies including self-developed automatic feedback control, artificial intelligence algorithm, advanced chip integration, wireless data transmission and rapid signal processing, which represents the highest level of original instrument technology from Hong Kong. During this COVID-19 epidemic, Dr. Xu Ke also lead to build a gas sensor measuring the ventilation capacity of old buildings in Hong Kong, which has been applied to track the flow direction of virus aerosol molecules. LaSense's invention has won many awards this year on behalf of CUHK, including Gold Prize of the 12th "Challenge Cup" National College Student Business Plan Competition.
