New Era and New Business Entrepreneurs Conference is Met With Great Success

Co-organized by BridgeWay Business Builder & Broker Co. Ltd and the CUHK Center for Entrepreneurship, the New Era and New Business Entrepreneurs Conference was held in the ballroom of the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong on 15 September. It attracted an audience of close to 350, and met with a great success.
The aim of the full-day conference was to share knowledge and experience with the public on entrepreneurship in Hong Kong. In his opening remarks, Prof. T. J. Wong, Dean of the CUHK Business School, stated, “The CUHK Business School is one of the top business schools in Hong Kong and the region, nurturing numerous business leaders and entrepreneurs for different sectors. We will continue working hard to strengthen our programs in an effort to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship for the benefit of Hong Kong and Greater China. The conference today marks a milestone for the Business School and CUHK Centre for Entrepreneurship, fostering an entrepreneurial culture through cooperation with business partners.”
The conference began with a talk by Mr. Lam Wai Chun, Chairman of CEC International Holdings Ltd. and founder of 759 Store. His speech, titled “Start a New Era of Retail Industry”, featured the interesting story of the snack kingdom that he founded in 2010. Established under a low profit margin and high-volume approach, 759 Store is becoming an outlier in this highly competitive retail market. Within just two years, 759 Store successfully grew from one small snack store in Kwai Chung into a giant snack enterprise with 100 outlets, soon to reach 120 by the end of this year.
Another highlight of the conference was the “CU Alumni Entrepreneurs Sharing on New Business Opportunities”. Three successful CUHK entrepreneurs shared provoking thoughts on how to tap into the era’s new opportunities, enabling them to expand their entrepreneurial businesses. Filled with a sense of humour, it was a very encouraging and inspiring discussion that drew enthusiastic responses among the audience.
The afternoon was packed with industry sharing for different sectors, including food and beverage, service, education, and retail. Discussions were also held on a range of other interesting topics, led by entrepreneurs from all walks of life. These featured social missions, e-marketing for the new age, case studies on the modernization of traditional business models, fundraising for business start-ups, tips for buying a business, and much more.
Commenting on the event, Prof. Kevin Au, Director of the CUHK Center for Entrepreneurship, states, “It was a very successful conference, drawing overwhelming responses. I was particularly impressed by the interaction between the speakers on the stage and among the guests and participants on the floor. This was an amazing experience that helped us fulfill our vision of promoting the entrepreneurial spirit in Hong Kong, particularly amongst the younger generation. The synergy derived from the event is clear, and I look forward to more cooperation with the business sector in the future.”
