VCCE & HKSEC Alumnus Story: Steven Cheng – A Path to Entrepreneurship of a Post-80s

Steven (3rd left) and his classmates won the ‘Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge 2007’ organised by CUHK’s Center for Entrepreneurship. Also in the photo are the Center’s director, Prof. Kevin Au (1st right), and program director Mr. Mingles Tsoi (2nd right)

"In Steven’s own words, it all started as a side interest, without a business venture framework. The spirit of entrepreneurship gradually grew with time. “I believe that the entrepreneurial spirit is able to bring new things to society and this is what Hong Kong presently lacks.” In 2007, as a Year-2 university student, along with four other classmates, Steven entered a competition known as the ‘Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge 2007’, which was hosted by CUHK’s Center for Entrepreneurship. Based on a business proposal to use low-skilled labourers for hand-washing laundry, his team knocked out 92 rival groups to win the championship."
